BN Roundup: Puma Sessions I and II Recap
All high school Puma teams were active over the weekend with great performances across the board.
Coach Heavunli Reese and the High School Girls traveled to Aggieland for PUMA NXT Session I in Bryan, TX. They began with a hot start, rattling off three straight wins beginning on Friday in a 29-17 win against Basketball Development Academy in the nightcap. Reese’s girls would go into Saturday and win back-to-back close affairs. On Saturday morning, a five-point cushion would be needed to take down Team Texas, and PHS Elite would be the Lady Ballers’ closest game of their weekend, the final being 51-40. Sunday would host their first and only loss of the weekend against Arkansas AAO Elite. Into the new workweek, The Lady Ballers sit tied for second in their pool with a 3-1 record. This upcoming weekend they will not be in action.
The 15U boys along with the 16U and 17U teams traveled east to The Pelican State for PUMA NXT Session II in Monroe, LA. Jeremy Tatum’s 15U opened the weekend with a 61-56 loss against Midway, FL opponent Xtreme Pressure. A bounce-back was imminent with their next game being a double-digit 52-30 victory over FAM Elite. To finish Saturday, fellow Texas team, University of Hoops, would be their closest contest, but BN would pull out a 63-61 victory. However, a Sunday loss to Houston Apex would seal the .500 weekend finishing with a 2-2 record.
Over in the 16U division, their lone loss of Session II would be their first game against Invictus Red Storm, one of only two teams in the pool that went 4-0. BN would fall in a tough matchup 50-49. This defeat would spark a three-game win streak, with two of the wins being double-digit wins. KSK Club would be the first to fall 63-53, Epic Academy would fall 56-52, and a dominant 82-29 victory over Iss Juss Uss would conclude the weekend.
Finally, in the 17U division, an over 65 PPG average would be the main story. Their explosive offense would be on display with back-to-back victories over EAD Miss. and Iss Jus Uss respectively, both matchups seeing BN top 70 points. Game three of the weekend would be the statistical turning point, with the Ballers falling short to Epic Academy 59-56. On Sunday morning the Ballers would hit the ground running in the final game of the session against University of Hoops. The team out of Katy would be the biggest win of the weekend for Ballers Nation, with the final score being 58-33 to end Session II with a record of 3-1.
